Our journey from sustainable agriculture to organic agri export is a story that is not only confined to our success but also to the empowering of countless lives and communities. Being part of a Group that is both responsive and responsible to the community at large, we strongly believe that sustainability is a fascinating transformer and for it to work in its truest sense it needs to be reflected at every level.
Stressing sustainability through empowerment we aid farmers and agricultural communities to better their lives and lifestyles. In turn it spreads to a larger periphery and wherever we work, we keep witnessing the uplifting of entire rural communities.
In keeping with the Group’s precepts of operation we strive to uplift the lives of the communities in which we operate, firmly believing that giving back to society enriches all.
Health and sanitary facility development, welfare for security forces, empowerment of women, self-employment, housing for destitute families, environmental protection and infrastructure facility development are areas of special focus.
Working to make a difference in the communities we serve, David Pieris Group, as part of its ongoing welfare initiatives, donated computers with internet and other modern facilities for the computer laboratory and the science laboratory of Sampoor Maha Vidyalaya in the Trincomalee District. This project was implemented by David Pieris Group in collaboration with Sri Lanka Navy personnel in the area with a view to enhancing the level of technical education among underprivileged students in Sampoor, which was once badly affected by the civil war. Over 650 students of the Sampoor Maha Vidyalaya will benefit from this project. This is the first of three stages of the project. . As the second stage of the project, David Pieris Group will construct a toilet complex for the village, and under the third stage, women who are sole breadwinners will be provided with skills training and infrastructure to start their own businesses.
‘Big Cleaning Day,’ is a programme organized by David Pieris Group’s Social Welfare Committee, at Minneriya National Park together with the Department of Wildlife Conservation and with the participation of around 200 volunteers. At the conclusion of this programme, the volunteers had collected more than 10 tractors full of polythene, plastic and other non-recyclable waste within the national park borders from Habarana to Minneriya. Each volunteer was presented with a coconut sapling as a token of appreciation.. David Pieris Group also sponsored the renovation of sign boards around the park about the importance of conserving and protecting natural resources.
David Pieris Group donated an Ultrasound Scanner to Lady Ridgway Children’s Hospital. This particular Ultrasound Scanner has many advantages including a very minute probe that can be used in areas of poor vascular access, which results in difficult cannulation. Having this machine in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) will save time and minimize delay by not having to transport the patient to the Radiology Department for investigation. SICU patients with severe cardiac diseases who are ventilated and cannot be taken to the cardiology unit for assessment could be assessed serially through this machine.
Another batch of students who have successfully completed the “Introduction to Computer Skills Course” sponsored by David Pieris Group of Companies at the Computer Training Centre in Madapatha, Piliyandala, received certificates recently at a ceremony held at David Pieris Motor Company (Private) Limited’s auditorium in Bandaragama.
